Welcome to Plug & Play The Steam Summer Sale has begun.
Initially I was going to make a comparison between this and a kind of Black Friday without the threat of being crushed to death. But in truth, it’s more of a merrier seasonal holiday for gamers. There are traditions, like rewards for spending, themed trading cards, giftable copies of games for your friends as well as discounts voted for by the public. But for every big budget bargain and clutch of indie games swiped at pocket-money prices, there’s the morning after. The morning when you wake up, wallet passed out from exhaustion, wishlist gleefully torn apart, and you see the gamut of games you’ve bought, drunk on all those ‘90% off’ signs. And much like a slowly digesting Christmas dinner it leaves you with a fatty deposit gluttonously gained that will require hours of your life to make use of. Well for the next few weeks I’ll be trying to burn off the weight I’ve gathered in my game library, playing and reviewing those games. Namely the small indie games that see huge popularity during the Steam sales and how they have created a fertile environment for creative and accessible games. So stay tuned for the first Plug & Play which will be the darkly intriguing LIMBO...
